Award-Winning Modern Residential Architecture in Dallas

This 7,600-square-foot modern residence sits on a wooded, sloped site our clients had called home for more than 30 years. After exploring renovation, we made the decision to begin again, creating a new home that could respond to their evolving needs, their three beloved dogs, and the dream of a “ranch in town.”

Winsted was recognized with a 2026 AIA Dallas Residential Design Award for Modern Home, Large, and was featured in Western Art & Architecture in the article “Quiet Beauty.” Both honors reflect what mattered most to us in the design: restraint, warmth, livability, and a deep respect for the site.

We approached the home as a collection of discrete buildings, lightly placed within the landscape. A restrained palette of stone, wood, terrazzo, plaster, and metal gives the residence cohesion while allowing each space to feel connected to the trees, slope, and natural light around it.

Inside, a continuous architectural spine organizes the home, guiding movement from the primary suite to the dog training room while allowing each room to orient outward. Natural light moves across stone, plaster, and terrazzo throughout the day, giving the architecture a quiet rhythm.

The result is an award-winning modern Dallas home that feels both durable and lyrical, functional and deeply personal. It is a residence shaped by landscape, material, movement, and the everyday life of the clients who live there.
