A Cottage for Robert & Joan

Architectural Design Highlights

The final of six structures on a family ranch, this 1,900-square-foot cottage offers a quiet retreat for the couple who started it all. Nestled at the threshold of wooded edge and open pasture, the design draws from its surroundings: solid where it's tucked in the trees, and increasingly transparent as it opens toward the landscape.

A singular stone wall anchors the home, extending from forest to field. Volumes align with it, except for rooftop lanterns—angular interventions that disrupt the horizon and invite in the sky. Material restraint and calibrated light give the home a presence that feels inevitable.
